Opportunities to Give
Each year, over 200 individuals donate their time and talents to the YMCA of Northern BC.
As a Y volunteer you can make a difference as part of a community of people that helps individuals and our community, succeed. You are an essential part of an organization that can deliver lasting personal and social change for you, your family, your community and communities across Canada. You will be a critical part of an effective and leading international charity with strong values and a mission to build healthy communities through programs and advocacy.
Volunteer positions include teaching fitness classes, providing guidance through our YMCA board, helping with homework, facility maintenance, special events and so much more. A volunteer must contribute a minimum of one hour per week.
The YMCA of Northern BC recognizes the contribution of our active volunteers through special events, skills development training and membership. Volunteers 16+ years are welcome.
Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to our two Volunteers of the Month!
Bari and Gary are both long time YMCA volunteers in housekeeping. Bari and Gary are both visually impaired, each comes with a great sense of humour and they have even named their own duo! They are regular faces around the fitness facility and we are so grateful to have them volunteer for us.
"I volunteer at the YMCA because it is nice to give back to an organization that helps so many people in our community. I enjoy the interactions with fellow volunteers, staff and members, as there are usually lots of laughs. The YMCA has helped me a lot in my own search for health and wellness and I am grateful to be able to volunteer and contribute." -Bari
"I love to volunteer because it makes me feel great to know I am using my free time to help others. The interaction with with our YMCA members is exciting and fun filled. It is a great confidence booster emotionally and physically. I will continue to do it as long as I can." - Gary
